The Washington Street Gateway (WSG) area, which extends from the Lynnway to Washington Street , up to and including Broad Street , back down Newhall Street to the Lynnway, is key to the revitalization efforts underway in Lynn because of its proximity to the waterfront (Lynnway), Diamond District, downtown and transportation center. The WSG planning work supports the city’s newly created Master Plan for the Waterfront. In fact, the group that completed the Waterfront plan, Sasaki Associates, is nearing completion of a similar plan for the Washington Street Gateway Area. The focus of the plan or vision will be on enhancing the area through physical improvements and redevelopment of current properties that will improve the quality of life for residents and property/business owners. The overall goal is to develop a strategic plan that includes mixed uses such as housing, business/retail, green space and infrastructure improvements to streets and sidewalks. The plan will serve as the basis for future public and private investment in this key urban area.
